Job Description

A phlebotomist specializes in collecting and transporting blood specimens. These technicians work with other health care team members and help patients feel more comfortable when giving blood or having a sample collected. The technician is often the only link between the patient and the medical lab.

Training Opportunities

Phlebotomist

A phlebotomist is someone who is trained to draw blood in a clinical environment for tests, transfusions, research or blood donations. They usually work under the supervision of the Medical Laboratory Scientist. Because they collect blood and are at risk of exposure to a variety of diseases, phlebotomists are trained in laboratory safety and must adhere to very strict policies and procedures.
